Multi-messenger signals from Tidal Disruption Events

Walter Winter
DESY

Recently several astrophysical neutrinos have been associated with Tidal Disruption Event (TDE) candidates; here a TDE refers to the violent destruction of a star close to a supermassive black hole by its tidal forces. These neutrino-coincident TDEs have common characteristics, such as strong dust echoes in the infrared range and detected X-ray signals. We discuss what can be learned from the observations about the neutrino production and the acceleration of cosmic rays, and what other electromagnetic signatures (such as in gamma rays) can be expected.
